MS SB2597

Increases the State Board of Dental Examiners from seven to nine licensed dentists by adding two African-American dentists appointed from the state at large.

Requires the Governor to appoint three African-American dentists from a list of six candidates selected through a poll of all licensed African-American dentists in the state, with the top vote-getter from each of six dental districts included on the nomination list.

Maintains the existing structure for appointing six district-based dentist members and one dental hygienist member through similar polling and nomination procedures.

Specifies that all board members must be licensed, actively practicing dentists or hygienists with at least five years of practice in Mississippi, and all appointments require Senate confirmation.

Takes effect July 1, 2012.
