Firms installing or inspecting fire sprinkler or fire pump systems must apply for a State Fire Marshal identification number, regardless of contract price

Each firm must designate a responsible managing employee (RME) who is at least 21 years old, maintains NICET Level 1 certification in automatic sprinkler system layout, and works full-time exclusively for that firm

The identification number must be printed on all shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, inspection reports, and inspection tags, with annual renewal required by July 1

Firms must notify the State Fire Marshal within 7 days if their RME leaves and have 6 months to submit a replacement or lose their identification number

Violations carry civil penalties up to $500, deposited into the Department of Insurance Special Fund; property owners may still use their own qualified employees for routine maintenance and inspections
