Senate Bill 2840 Summary

• Creates a new Certified Investigator Program (CIP) Fund in the State Treasury to provide funding for law enforcement officer training through the Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training.

• Adds a $1.00 state assessment to traffic violations under Title 63 (except implied consent law and parking violations), with funds deposited into the CIP Fund.

• Fund consists of legislative appropriations, interest, monies from the $1.00 traffic violation assessment, federal funds, donations, and other sources as provided by law.

• Increases total state assessment for traffic violations from $80.00 to $81.00 per violation, and directs the State Treasurer to distribute CIP Fund monies upon requisition by the Board's Executive Director.

• Effective date: July 1, 2012.
