Senate Bill 2842 Summary

• Amends Section 99-19-73 of the Mississippi Code to revise monetary assessments collected from individuals convicted of violations across multiple violation categories.

• Increases the Statewide Victims' Information and Notification (SAVIN) System Fund assessment from $8.50 to $8.50 for Implied Consent Law violations (Section 2, subsection (2)), other misdemeanors (Section 2, subsection (6)), and other felonies (Section 2, subsection (7)).

• Maintains existing assessment amounts for traffic violations ($80 total), implied consent violations ($237.50 total), game and fish violations ($80 total), litter law violations ($25 total), and speeding/reckless driving violations.

• Requires courts to collect all state assessments and prohibits suspension or reduction of assessments even if fines are suspended, with collection deposited monthly with the State Treasurer.

• Takes effect July 1, 2012.
