Senate Bill 2918 Summary

• Brings forward ten existing state boards and commissions for purposes of amendment, including the Central Market Board, Child Death Review Panel, Commercial Mobile Radio Service Board, Crime Stoppers Advisory Council, Early Learning Collaboration Grant Program, Electronic Protection Licensing Advisory Board, Health Care Trust Fund board, Mississippi Hospital Equipment Facilities Authority, Mississippi Technology Alliance Liaison Committee, and Mississippi Commission on the Status of Women.

• Brings forward Chapter 1019 of Local and Private Laws of 2004 establishing the Capital City Convention Center Commission in Jackson, which oversees the convention center and levies taxes on restaurant sales (1%), hotel/motel rooms and food/beverages (3%), and convention center caterer sales (3%) to fund operations and debt service.

• Establishes the Child Death Review Panel with 15 voting members from state agencies and organizations to review infant and child deaths and submit annual reports to legislative committees with mortality data and recommendations; section repeals July 1, 2013.

• Creates the Commercial Mobile Radio Service Board with 8 members to collect and distribute wireless 911 emergency service charges of $1.00 per month per connection, establishing a fund for E911 service provider costs and emergency communication district operations.

• Effective date for all amendments is July 1, 2012.
