Mourns the death of Maurice Dantin, age 82, who passed away on January 10, 2012, and was a former Mayor of Columbia and District Attorney for the Fifth Circuit Court District.

Commends Dantin's extensive public service record including his roles as attorney, Marine Corps Colonel, church leader, and member of numerous civic and professional organizations.

Recognizes his political career including his election as Mayor of Columbia at age 26, unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign in 1975, and unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign in 1978 against Thad Cochran.

Acknowledges his numerous awards and honors including Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm, University of Mississippi Student Body President in 1951, and service as a Torch Bearer in the 1996 U.S. Olympic Relay.

Directs that the resolution be presented to Dantin's surviving family, the City of Columbia, the Mississippi Bar Association, and the Capitol Press Corps.
