East Mississippi Community College "Lions" football team (12-0) defeated Arizona Western College 55-47 to win the 2011 NJCAA National Championship on December 3, 2011, at the El Toro Bowl in Yuma, Arizona, marking the college's first national championship in any sport.

Quarterback Bo Wallace was named NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year and set single-season NJCAA records with 4,604 passing yards, 4,810 total offense yards, and 53 touchdown passes.

Head Coach Buddy Stephens was named American Community College Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year for leading the Lions to the national championship.

The Lions claimed the No. 1 ranking in the final NJCAA Top 20 poll following their championship victory over the previously top-ranked Matadors.

The resolution recognizes and salutes the 2011 East Mississippi Community College Lions football team, coaching staff, and support personnel for their championship achievement and honor to the college, community, and state.
