Picayune High School "Maroon Tide" won the MHSAA Class 5A State Championship on December 2, 2011, defeating Starkville High School 38-21 with a 13-game winning season (13-2 final record).

The Maroon Tide scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to overcome a 21-17 deficit and secure their first state championship since 1986.

Picayune accumulated 459 yards of total offense with 314 rushing yards; key players included Dereonte Magee (133 rushing yards), Jordan Dedeaux (88 yards), and Ben Hickman (145 passing yards).

Head Coach Dodd Lee and the 2011 varsity roster of 47 players and 8 assistant coaches are commended for bringing honor to the school and community.

Senate and House formally commend the team and extend best wishes for future athletic and academic success, with the resolution to be presented to Coach Lee and the Picayune School Board.
