New Site High School "Lady Royals" won the MHSAA Class 2A girls basketball state championship on March 1, 2012, defeating Walnut 56-44 at the Mississippi Coliseum.

The team finished with a 30-4 record and won 12 consecutive games by double digits, marking their first state championship after four straight tournament appearances and three consecutive finals berths.

Shelby Stricklen led the team with 16 points, and the Lady Royals dominated through Coach Byron Sparks' full-court press and half-court trap defense, forcing 19 turnovers from Walnut by halftime.

The resolution commends the 15-player roster and Head Coach Byron Sparks, and directs the resolution to be presented to Coach Sparks, Superintendent Randall Downs, and the Prentiss County Board of Education.
