Commends George Edwards, a Brandon resident, for his dedicated service to the Mississippi State Board of Public Contractors and the construction industry since 1960.

Edwards served as a board member representing residential builders starting in 2003 and became Chairman of the Residential Standing Committee in 2006, playing a key role in the board's response following Hurricane Katrina.

As a board member, Edwards sought disciplinary actions resulting in over 1,500 violations and more than $2.5 million recovered by the State of Mississippi to protect consumers from unlicensed and fraudulent contractors.

The recovered fines were directed toward educational grants for institutions including Mississippi Construction Education Foundation, Mississippi State School of Engineering and Construction Technology, University of Southern Mississippi, and Hinds Community College.

Edwards has received numerous honors including Home Builder of the Year (2003), Builder Member of the Year (2003), Rotarian of the Year (2003), and induction into the Mississippi Housing Hall of Fame (2004).
