Pearl Police Investigator Mike Walter died in the line of duty on May 1, 2012, becoming the first officer in Pearl Police Department history to fall while serving.

Walter was shot while serving a warrant on a sexual assault and molestation suspect; two of three officers were hit, and the suspect was killed.

Walter was 37 years old, born in San Diego, California, and had played minor league baseball for four years in Jackson from 1997-2000 as a relief pitcher before becoming a law enforcement officer.

Walter is survived by his wife Jeanne and 11-year-old daughter Bailey; the resolution extends the state's condolences to his family and fellow law enforcement officers.

The resolution directs that copies be transmitted to Walter's family, the Pearl Chief of Police, and the Capitol Press Corps.
