MS HB10

Expands the definition of "vulnerable person" under the Vulnerable Persons Act to include minors who are 10 years of age or younger due to their inability to perform normal daily activities or provide their own care or protection.

Doubles penalties for crimes of sexual battery, abuse, neglect, and exploitation when committed against minors who are 10 years of age or younger under the Vulnerable Persons Act.

Doubles penalties for simple and aggravated assault when committed against vulnerable minors who are 10 years of age or younger.

Doubles penalties for failure to report abuse, neglect, or exploitation of minors who are 10 years of age or younger to appropriate authorities.

Takes effect July 1, 2013.
