Reduces the maximum employment period for law enforcement trainees in full-time capacity from two (2) years to one (1) year.

Maintains the two (2) year maximum employment period for law enforcement trainees in part-time, reserve, or auxiliary capacity.

Prohibits law enforcement units from circumventing time limits by terminating and rehiring trainees before the expiration of allowed service periods.

Allows trainees with legitimate reasons (illness or unforeseeable circumstances) to extend service until they can complete required training or schooling.

Takes effect July 1, 2013.
