House Bill 227 Summary

• State Personnel Board shall fix salaries, compensation, mileage, and expenses for legislators, Lieutenant Governor, President Pro Tempore of Senate, and Speaker Pro Tempore of House effective January 1, 2016.

• Multiple sections of law establishing specific legislative compensation amounts are repealed effective January 1, 2016, including the $10,000 regular session compensation and $60,000 annual salary for Lieutenant Governor and Speaker.

• New legislators and new Presidents of the Senate elected after January 1, 2016, are excluded from membership in the Supplemental Legislative Retirement Plan.

• Existing plan members cease earning additional creditable service in the Supplemental Legislative Retirement Plan effective July 1, 2015, and both employee and employer contributions to the plan end on that date.

• Attorney General must submit the act to the U.S. Attorney General or U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for approval under the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
