Cleveland, Mississippi was named the Number 2 best small town in Smithsonian Magazine's 20 Best Small Towns to Visit in 2013 based on cultural assets.

Delta State University, established in 1924, contributes significantly to Cleveland's cultural life through the Bologna Performing Arts Center, Delta Center for Culture and Learning, Delta Music Institute, and Dave "Boo" Ferriss Museum.

The surrounding area features notable cultural sites including Dockery Farms (birthplace of Delta Blues), Mound Bayou (founded in 1887 by former slaves), McCarty Pottery, and Po' Monkey's juke joint.

A Grammy Museum is planned to open in 2015 on Delta State University's campus to honor the Mississippi Delta's contributions to music.

The Mississippi Legislature commends and congratulates Cleveland on this honor and directs that copies be sent to the City of Cleveland and Capitol Press Corps.
