Commends Coach Sank Powe, Jr., who passed away on January 20, 2013, for his life dedicated to leadership, education, and mentorship in the Cleveland, Mississippi community.

Recognizes his 25-year tenure as Head Baseball Coach of Cleveland High School Wildcats and his additional roles as teacher, assistant football coach, head softball coach, and Major League Baseball Scout for the Cincinnati Reds organization.

Honors his historic achievement in 1970 when he became the first Black teacher and head coach at the all-white Cleveland High School during a time of deep racial tension, earning respect through determination and personality.

Acknowledges his creation of the Coach Powe Community Foundation and coordination of the Cleveland School District Mentor Program to serve local children.

Expresses deepest sympathy to his family, including daughters Calandra and Veronika, and directs copies of the resolution be furnished to his family and the Capitol Press Corps.
