Commends Laura Lee Lewis, a Brookhaven native, for her initiative in establishing a Mississippi Chapter of the Teen Trendsetters Reading Mentors Program.

Teen Trendsetters is an award-winning mentoring program sponsored by the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy that pairs high school mentors with elementary students for weekly one-hour reading sessions.

High school mentors receive leadership training through a specialized 40-minute curriculum called Brainstorm, and elementary students receive more than a dozen scholastic readers throughout the year.

The program has achieved a 90% volunteer retention rate and has expanded from 30 teens in its initial Florida charter ten years ago to serving more than 3,500 students nationally, earning the prestigious Harris Wofford Award for "best youth program."

Directs that copies of the resolution be furnished to Laura Lee Lewis and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
