Recognizes his 40-year career at Southern Miss beginning in 1973, including serving as the first Director of the School of Communication from 1981 to 2001

Highlights his professional achievements including the 1992 Mississippi Educational Administrator of the Year Award and two Excellence in Teaching Awards from the university

Notes his community service as President of the Board of Directors of Northeast Lamar Fire, Rescue and EMS since 1993, longtime member of Hardy Street Baptist Church, and past president of the Rotary Club of Hattiesburg Sunrise

Expresses official sympathy to his survivors including his wife Linda, son Matthew, and two grandchildren, and directs copies be furnished to his family and the Capitol Press Corps
