Commends Claude Hartley of Tupelo for his exceptional service in public education and his retirement from the State Board of Education in June 2012 after 12 years of service

Recognizes Hartley's appointment to the Tupelo School Board in 1984 for 10 years, during which he played a key role in passage of a major school bond issue in the early 1990s that resulted in a new Tupelo High School and district expansions

Acknowledges Hartley's service on the State Board of Education beginning in 2000 and his role as chairman from 2006 to 2008, during which he implemented a major accountability system impacting Mississippi students statewide

Notes Hartley's guiding principle that "all children are important" and his commitment to making policy decisions based on what he believed was right and in the best interest of children
