Mississippi Board of Pharmacy must develop a standardized prior authorization form for prescription drug coverage by November 1, 2013, effective January 1, 2014.

The form shall not exceed two pages and must be made available electronically by both the board and health insurance issuers, with electronic submission capability from prescribing providers.

Health insurance issuers must accept only the standardized form when requiring prior authorization for prescription drugs; failure to respond within two business days results in automatic approval of the authorization request.

The Board must develop the form with input from public meetings and consider existing federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services forms and national standards for electronic prior authorization.

The act takes effect July 1, 2013, with implementation requirements beginning January 1, 2014.
