Repeals Section 37-13-62 of Mississippi Code, which required all public schools to begin the school year on or after the third Monday in August.

Restores Section 37-13-61, giving local school boards authority to set their own school opening and closing dates.

Local school boards remain subject to minimum number of days schools must be in session as prescribed under Section 37-13-63.

Allows local school boards to keep schools in session for more than the minimum required number of days.

Takes effect upon passage.
