MS SB2285

Establishes a state income tax credit up to $500 annually for licensed public schoolteachers for out-of-pocket expenditures on classroom supplies, instructional materials, or equipment used in public school classrooms.

Requires teachers to be employed by the school district where supplies were purchased, licensed by the State Board of Education, and assigned to an instruction area of work.

Restricts credit eligibility to expenditures approved in the local school spending plan and by the school principal; denies credit if local or state funds are available for the same expenditure.

Makes the credit effective for taxable years beginning January 1, 2013.

Codifies provisions in Chapter 7, Title 27, Mississippi Code of 1972.
