Velma Jackson High School "Falcons" boys basketball team (27-8 record) won the Class 3A State Championship on March 8, 2013, defeating Booneville 45-44 in the title game at the Mississippi Coliseum.

Coach Anthony Carlyle achieved his first state title in his second year coaching at Velma Jackson High School.

Moses Greenwood earned Most Valuable Player honors with 15 points and 5 rebounds, including six dunks; Quinndary Weatherspoon scored 11 points and Kendarius Smith scored 8 points.

Senate and House commend and congratulate the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for bringing honor to their school, community and the State of Mississippi.

Resolution to be presented to Coach Carlyle and Principal George Jones III and forwarded to the Madison County Board of Education.
