Exempts documents, records, data, protocols, and materials created or collected during academic research at community colleges and state institutions of higher learning from the Mississippi Public Records Act

Published, copyrighted, trademarked, or patented records are not exempt and remain subject to public records requests

Exempts unpublished manuscripts, preliminary analyses, drafts of scientific papers, plans for future research, and prepublication peer reviews from public disclosure

Clarifies that the exemptions do not create public record rights over or infringe upon copyright protections

Effective date of July 1, 2014
