MS HB124

Increases the number of authorized full-time legal assistants for district attorneys across 16 of Mississippi's 23 circuit court districts by varying amounts (ranging from 1 to 2 additional positions per district).

Adds Twenty-third Circuit Court District to the statute with authorization for 2 full-time legal assistants.

Allows each circuit court district to employ an additional 2 legal assistants if the Legislature appropriates funds or if county boards of supervisors adopt resolutions to pay salaries and benefits.

Permits district attorneys to employ additional legal assistants beyond authorized numbers if funded through office-generated revenue, county/municipal contributions, federal funds, grants, or interlocal cooperative agreements.

Effective July 1, 2014.
