Creates a new felony offense for physically assaulting any sports official at any level of competition within or near an athletic facility where the official is actively participating.

Penalty for assault of a sports official is a fine of $10,000 and imprisonment for 3 years.

Amends Section 97-3-7 of the Mississippi Code to add subsection (9) specifying that assault of a sports official is governed by the new offense created in Section 1.

Takes effect July 1, 2014.
