Authorizes municipalities and counties to adopt discretionary policies allowing continued payment of regular compensation and benefits for law enforcement officers, firefighters, and public-protection employees injured in the line of duty while unable to work

Compensation may continue until the injured employee is physically able to return to work or retires on a disability allowance, whichever comes first

Maximum continued compensation equals the difference between the employee's regular compensation and the total amount received from workers' compensation and disability benefits under Section 45-2-21

Once an injured employee ceases receiving workers' compensation or disability trust fund benefits, the municipality or county may continue paying the employee's full regular compensation for a period specified in the adopted policy
