HB 1416 Summary

• Amends Section 37-19-7 to clarify that full-time licensed classroom teachers employed by local school districts who work in a nonadministrative capacity shall be paid according to the state teacher salary scale.

• Expands the categories of school personnel eligible for state salary scale payments to include librarians, guidance counselors, school nurses, school psychologists, speech language pathologists, audiologists, and certified academic language therapists who work in nonadministrative capacities.

• Maintains existing salary schedules based on teacher license type (Class AAAA, AAA, AA, or A) and years of teaching experience, with annual increments specified for the 2008-2009 school year and thereafter.

• Preserves requirements that school districts cannot reduce local supplements paid to individual teachers and must provide additional state-funded compensation for National Board certified teachers and other credentialed specialists.

• Takes effect July 1, 2014.
