Creates a sales tax exemption for school supplies priced under $50 during an annual tax-free weekend beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the last Friday in July through midnight the following Saturday

Defines "school supplies" with an exhaustive list of 41 qualifying items including backpacks, calculators, notebooks, pencils, pens, rulers, scissors, textbooks, and art supplies like paints and brushes

Allows municipalities to opt out of the school supply tax exemption by adopting a resolution and notifying the Department of Revenue at least 90 days before the desired suspension date (effective January 1, 2015)

Adds to an existing sales tax holiday framework that already exempts clothing and footwear under $100 during the same late-July weekend

Effective date: July 1, 2014
