HB 219 Summary

• Repeals sections 63-13-1 through 63-13-29 of Mississippi Code eliminating the requirement for annual safety inspections of motor vehicles and certificates of inspection.

• Amends Section 63-7-59 to remove references to motor vehicle inspection certificates and labels while maintaining window tinting regulations and medical exemption provisions.

• Removes language requiring inspection stations to issue compliance labels for tinted windows and eliminates the $5.00 tinting compliance test fee previously split between stations and the Department of Public Safety.

• Brings forward Section 99-19-73 establishing state assessment fees imposed on individuals convicted of traffic violations, ranging from $88.59 to $243.50 depending on violation type, with funds directed to various state trust funds and programs.

• Effective date: July 1, 2014.
