HB 438 Summary

• Removes requirement that nontraditional teacher candidates maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA specifically on content coursework in their requested area of certification.

• Revises nontraditional teaching route eligibility to require a 2.75 overall GPA provided the accepted cohort of candidates meets or exceeds a 3.0 GPA in the teacher education program.

• Maintains requirement that all nontraditional route candidates achieve a 21 ACT equivalent or pass the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators examination.

• Effective July 1, 2014, allowing individuals to pursue teacher licensure through the alternate route with revised academic performance standards.
