Adult TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) applicants must complete a written screening questionnaire to assess likelihood of substance use disorder

Applicants who screen positive for potential substance use disorder must submit to a drug test paid for by the Department of Human Services to continue receiving cash assistance

Refusing a drug test results in termination of benefits for 90 days after the first refusal or 1 year after a second refusal within the same year

Recipients who test positive for unlawful drug use may continue receiving benefits only if they enter a substance use disorder treatment plan lasting at least 60 days and pass subsequent drug tests

Declining treatment or failing to meet treatment requirements results in benefit termination for 90 days (first violation) or 1 year (repeat violation within one year)
