Charter school teachers must obtain alternative licensure from the Mississippi Commission on Teacher and Administrator Education, Certification and Licensure and Development within three years of their initial employment with the charter school.

No more than 25 percent of charter school teachers may be exempt from state teacher licensure requirements.

Removes the requirement that the executive director of the Mississippi Charter School Authorizer Board must be licensed to practice law in Mississippi; director must instead possess general knowledge of state and federal education law.

Executive director must meet qualifications based on national best practices and devote full time to administration of the board.

Act takes effect July 1, 2014.
