Excavators are not liable for damages to underground utility lines if Mississippi One-Call System, Inc. fails to provide operators to mark locations within 4 working days of notice.

Excavators must provide 2-10 working days advance written, electronic, or telephonic notice to Mississippi One-Call System, Inc. before beginning excavation work.

Operators have 2 working days to investigate and mark, or report the status of underground utility lines and facilities in the excavation area, with up to 2 additional days allowed if excavation is required to locate facilities.

When an excavator encounters unmarked underground facilities after excavation has commenced, all operators must contact the excavator within 4 hours to inform them of known facilities at the site.

Excavators who fully comply with notice requirements are protected from liability for damage unless Mississippi One-Call System, Inc. fails to provide timely marking of underground utility locations.
