Amends Section 9-1-105 of Mississippi Code to increase the maximum annual compensation for retired judges serving as special judges from 25% to 50% of the current salary for a chancery or circuit court judge.

Retired chancery, circuit, or county court judges, retired Court of Appeals judges, and retired Supreme Court Justices appointed as special judges may not exceed the 50% compensation cap during any fiscal year.

Currently sitting judges appointed as special judges receive no additional compensation; other appointed special judges receive 1/260 of the current judicial salary per day of service.

Special judges continue to be eligible for travel expense reimbursement and may not have retirement benefits reduced due to service as a special judge.

Effective date: July 1, 2014.
