Ray Guy, University of Southern Mississippi punter, was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on February 1, 2014, becoming the first pure punter and only the second kicker so honored.

Guy was drafted first overall by the Oakland Raiders in 1973 and played his entire 14-year, 207-game career with the team, averaging 42.4 yards per punt with only 3 blocked punts in 1,049 attempts.

He was a six-time NFL All-Pro, seven-time Pro Bowl selection, led the NFL in punting in 1974, 1975, and 1977, and was named to the NFL's 75th Anniversary Team in 1994.

Guy holds collegiate records at University of Southern Mississippi including a 93-yard punt against Ole Miss and a 61-yard field goal against Utah State, and was also named an All-American defensive back.

Legislature extends congratulations and tributes to Ray Guy for bringing honor to his alma mater and the State of Mississippi.
