Removes the $250 merchandise value threshold from the definition of the offense, making it unlawful for any employee to give away merchandise without the merchant's authorization regardless of value.

Establishes a misdemeanor offense with a fine up to $1,000 and/or imprisonment up to one year for violations involving merchandise valued under $500.

Establishes a felony offense with a fine up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 10 years for violations involving merchandise valued at $500 or more.

Takes effect July 1, 2014.
