Applicants for the Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters Scholarship must have graduated from high school with a minimum 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale at the end of each academic year to remain eligible for renewal.

Proof of permanent and total disability is now based on four documents: a letter from the officer's or firefighter's former supervisor, a statement from their physician, verification from the Public Employees' Retirement System, and verification from the Social Security Administration.

For fatal injuries or wounds, claims require only two documents: a letter from the former supervisor or employer and a death certificate.

The act takes effect July 1, 2014.
