MS SB2547

Amends Mississippi Code Section 25-1-113 to prohibit state and local government entities from employing persons convicted or guilty of felonies involving unlawful taking, obtaining, or misappropriation of public funds through abuse or misuse of office or employment.

Changes mandatory language from "may not employ" to "shall not employ" effective July 1, 2013 for new hires.

Extends prohibition to require government entities to cease employment of currently employed individuals meeting the same conviction criteria, effective July 1, 2014.

Applies to convictions or guilty pleas in state, federal, or other state courts.

Takes effect upon passage.
