Pays tribute to Gene A. Triggs, Sr., of Clinton, Mississippi, who passed away November 27, 2013, after four decades as a business, civic, university, political and church leader in the state.

Triggs held significant positions including Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture for Mississippi (1958), Executive Director of the State Agriculture and Industrial Board, Vice President of Administration and Government Relations at Mississippi Chemical Corporation (1967-1993), and Chair of both the Mississippi Economic Council and Mississippi Manufacturers Association.

Served as Chair of the Southern Baptist Convention's Foreign Mission Board for four years and as a board member for 12 years, and was a founder of Agricultural Missions Foundation and the Mississippi Baptist Foundation president.

Founded and led Mississippians for Public Education in the 1970s-1980s, was a 50-year Rotarian, and received the Mississippi Industrial Man of the Year Award in 1982.

Survived by his wife of 61 years, Robbie Perry Triggs; two children; one sister; and three grandchildren.
