Recognizes Donald "Field" Brown, a Mississippi State University senior from Vicksburg, as a 2013 Rhodes Scholar and the university's first since 1911.

Brown, an English and philosophy major, was selected as one of 32 Americans from 857 applicants to receive the Rhodes Scholarship, which covers all expenses for two to three years of study at Oxford University in England.

Brown co-founded The Streetcar literary magazine at Mississippi State and served as President of the Philosophy and Religion Club while maintaining active involvement in campus life.

Brown plans to pursue parallel master's degrees in American and English literature at Oxford with a focus on post-World War II literature interactions.

The legislature extends congratulations to Brown and his family for this prestigious achievement that brings honor to Vicksburg, Mississippi State University, and the State of Mississippi.
