Clara School in Wayne County burned to the ground on October 28, 2011, due to vandalism by two juveniles, destroying the main campus.

School staff and community rallied to continue education using area churches and portable trailers while maintaining Clara School's status as the highest-rated school in the Wayne County School District.

Clara School improved its School Accountability Rating from "C" to "B" despite operating in temporary structures and crowded conditions following the fire.

Construction on a new facility began over a year after the fire, with completion estimated for Spring 2015 or later.

Senate and House recognize and commend the determination and educational achievement of Clara School's students, teachers, administration, and community members in overcoming this adversity.
