HB 1186 - Mississippi Minimum Wage Act

• Establishes state minimum wage at $9.00 per hour, effective July 1, 2015, with employers of tipped employees exempt and required to pay only $3.62 per hour.

• Requires overtime compensation at 1.5 times the regular rate for employees earning $455 or less per week, including manual laborers, law enforcement, and most non-management employees regardless of salary.

• Prohibits counties and municipalities from establishing their own minimum wage, living wage, or mandatory paid leave requirements to ensure uniform business conditions across the state.

• Brings forward existing Mississippi Code sections related to state auditor internships, school employee leave policies, election official compensation, wage garnishment protections, and joint economic development authority definitions for potential amendment.
