Disabled American veterans who hold a disabled veteran license plate under Section 27-19-53 and also have a mobility-impairing disability may now receive a special decal bearing the International Symbol of Access for up to two vehicles

The decal requires physician certification that the applicant cannot walk 200 feet without rest, requires assistive devices to walk, has severe lung or cardiac conditions, uses portable oxygen, or has arthritic, neurological, or orthopedic conditions limiting walking ability

Initial applications and renewals (every 5 years) must include physician certification confirming the walking disability will persist for at least five years

The decal is issued free of charge through county tax collectors and attaches to the existing disabled veteran plate or tag
