MS HB1294

Amends Section 97-3-7 of Mississippi Code to revise the list of protected personnel who trigger enhanced penalties for simple and aggravated assault.

Adds "Division of Youth Services personnel" to the list of protected personnel, replacing references to "youth detention center personnel" and "training school juvenile care worker."

Increases penalties for simple assault on protected persons from a maximum $500 fine or 6 months jail to a maximum $1,000 fine or 5 years imprisonment.

Increases penalties for aggravated assault on protected persons from a maximum 20 years to a maximum 30 years imprisonment, with a maximum $5,000 fine.

Takes effect July 1, 2015.
