House Bill 178 Summary

• Prohibits state and federal officials from enforcing federal firearms laws that have not been adopted by Congress and signed by the President on firearms, accessories, or ammunition manufactured and remaining within Mississippi's borders.

• Declares federal laws enacted after January 1, 2015 that ban semi-automatic firearms, restrict magazine sizes, or require firearm registration unenforceable within Mississippi.

• Establishes criminal penalties of one to five years imprisonment and up to $5,000 fine for federal officials who attempt to enforce prohibited federal firearm regulations in Mississippi.

• Authorizes the Mississippi Attorney General to defend state citizens prosecuted by the federal government under firearms laws deemed unenforceable under this act.

• Amends existing firearm licensing and regulations sections (45-9-101, 97-37-5, 97-37-7, 97-37-31, 97-37-103, and 97-37-105) to make them subject to this act's provisions.
