House Bill 351 Summary

• Commissioner of Public Safety must promulgate rules and regulations for licenses issued to honorably retired law enforcement officers and honorably retired correctional officers from the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

• Retired law enforcement officer licenses must include the words "retired law enforcement officer" on the front and have a red background to distinguish them from standard concealed carry licenses.

• Honorably retired officers must provide a letter from their agency on official letterhead certifying they are honorably retired and have completed a certified law enforcement training academy.

• Honorably retired law enforcement officers and disabled veterans are exempt from the $100 license fee and $50 renewal fee for concealed carry permits.

• The act takes effect July 1, 2015.
