Dr. Erin Riggins of Gulfport, Mississippi, named Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College

Award established by the MGCCC Alumni Association recognizes teaching excellence, college service, community service, and professional development based on nominations from students, faculty, and administrators

Dr. Riggins holds a bachelor's degree from University of Southern Mississippi, master's from University of South Alabama, and Ph.D. in science education from University of Southern Mississippi

Received $50,000 grant from the National Institute of Health to develop a biomedical teaching laboratory at MGCCC

Active in community service including the MGCCC Faculty Association, Children's Ministries Director at Christ United Methodist Church in Long Beach, and the Southernettes Mardi Gras organization
