Newton County Academy "Generals" won the 2014 MAIS Class A state football championship with a 7-6 victory over University Academy of Central Louisiana Lions at Robinson-Hale Stadium in Clinton, Mississippi, finishing with an 11-3 record.

Jordan Jones scored the game-winning touchdown on an over-the-shoulder 55-yard catch in the second half, and Brandon Harrison and Dustin Alsup blocked a crucial 2-point conversion attempt to secure the victory.

Head Coach Robert Roberts is commended for his nine-year tenure leading the team to their first state championship while refining players' skills and knowledge of the game.

The team dedicated the season to Brad Harrison, who passed away before the season began, retiring his jersey number 7—the same number of points needed to win the championship game.

The Mississippi Legislature commends the players, coaches, and cheerleaders for bringing honor to Newton County Academy and the state of Mississippi.
