Dr. Henry Outlaw, Chair Emeritus of Delta State University's Department of Physical Sciences and Professor Emeritus of Chemistry, passed away on February 21, 2015, at age 77.

Dr. Outlaw served as Professor of Chemistry (1966-2002) and Department Chair (1970-2002) at Delta State, and later worked as a Program Associate at the Delta Center for Culture and Learning and Development Officer at the Alumni-Foundation Office.

He was a National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellow, visiting professor at multiple universities, and received fellowships at Oxford University and the University of the South; in 1995 he received the Outstanding Chemist Award from the Mississippi Section of the American Chemical Society.

Dr. Outlaw collected oral histories and artifacts related to the Emmett Till murder with grants from the Mississippi Humanities Council, developing a nationally-recognized travel exhibit.

The Legislature expresses sympathy to his surviving wife of 52 years (Brenda Faye Bickerstaff Outlaw), two children, and two grandsons, and directs this resolution be presented to his family and Delta State University leadership.
